Fidget spinners: A choking hazard that sent kids to the hospital

Fidget spinners are all the rage right now, but this popular toy has sent some parents flying into a rage. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has jumped on board the latest craze to determine if these are actually safe products.

The issue that is coming into the picture now is that the spinners on each tip of the toy can slip out. This poses a choking hazard to children. In fact, two children have been noted as having to go to the hospital to get help to remove the spinners.

One theory about the part of the spinner that is coming out is that it only happens when the toy wears out. Still, with the possibility of death from a children's toy, it is imperative that parents keep a close eye on what it happening when a child has a fidget spinner.

In the United States, all toys have to meet certain safety standards. Because fidget spinners have gotten so popular so quickly, it is likely going to be difficult for the government to track down every manufacturer of the toy to address these issues.

Many schools across the country have taken aim at the toy, which is supposed to help children occupy their hands so they can focus on lessons. These schools are outlawing them because they say the fidget spinners are actually a distraction. It seems as though this might be a good idea, considering the safety hazard that is present.

Parents who have a child who is injured by a fidget spinner is urged to report the incident to the CPSC. Additionally, those parents might choose to seek compensation for the effects of the incident.
