What should you do if a dog bites you?

Although most dogs are friendly and more than willing to get along with humans and other animals, this is not always the case. Instead, there are times when a dog acts in an aggressive manner, which could end up with one or more persons being injured.

There are many steps to take if a dog bites you:

-- If possible, immediately wash the wound with warm water and soap.

-- Transport yourself to a local hospital or call for immediate medical assistance.

-- Receive medical treatment, learn more about your injuries and get a clear idea of what type of care you should take in the future.

-- Follow the instructions of your medical team, as this is the only way to ensure that you're on track to make a recovery.

Along with the above, and depending on the circumstances, you may want to learn more about your legal rights. For example, if a person lets his or her dog off its leash, thus leading to an attack, he or she may be held responsible for your injuries.

Your health and well-being is more important than anything else, but never overlook the fact that you may be able to receive compensation for your injuries and other damages.

It's easy to believe that all dogs are friendly, but accidents happen every now and again. A dog bite or attack is nothing to take lightly, as this could impact your mental and physical health now and in the future. Don't hesitate to take action if you or a loved one has been put in this difficult position.
