An officer-involved shooting in Pontiac on March 9, 2020, has now resulted in criminal charges against the police officer.
What makes this shooting especially tragic is that the 16-year-old victim, Isabella, was pregnant at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, both the victim and the victim’s unborn child survived the event.
The shooting took place at approximately 2:00 a.m. during a stop for a traffic offense. The driver took fled on foot when the police pulled the car over. The second deputy to come to the scene, although it is not clear at this time what prompted the officer to fire his weapon.
In addition to Isabella, there were two other women in the back seat of the vehicle. Fortunately, neither sustained any injuries from the shooting.
The founding attorney of our firm, Wolfgang Mueller, is representing Isabella and her family against Mr. Cadotte. He released the following statement:
“I’m happy to see Prosecutor Cooper hold law enforcement accountable when they break the law. And Sheriff Bouchard for taking appropriate disciplinary measures. Isabella and her unborn child almost lost their lives because of poor decision-making.”
Mr. Cadotte was released from custody on $25,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 16, 2020.
